Janesville Gazette - Last evening about 7 o'clock death came most suddenly to Thomas Hemmingway, who lives at No. 89 South Main Street. Mr. Hemmingway was in advanced age and natural feebleness, and had been complaining some during the day, but nothing serious was thought to be affecting him. He ate his dinner and supper as usual, and shortly after the latter meal, lay down upon the lounge and seemed to be troubled with pains in his chest and difficulty in breathing, after taking some simple home remedy, he arose and prepared for bed. While in the act of undressing he was heard to fall, and some of the family rushing to him found him stretched full length upon the floor, and as they raised him his lips quivered a little, the only sign of life, and he was dead.

Mr. Hemmingway was born in England, January 14, 1803, and was therefore in his seventy-ninth year. He married her, who is thus widowed, in Buffalo, forty-six years ago, they being the first couple married in the first Episcopal church built in that city. Thirty-two years ago Mr. Hemmingway entered the employ of Mr. Peter Meyers, in the soap business. He has lived here ever since, leading a quiet, industrious life, and advancing into old age with a cheerfulness of manner, and youthfulness of heart, which won and kept as friends those who came into contact with his life. Besides his wife, he leaves six children, four sons and two daughters, they being John Hemmingway, of this city; Joseph Hemmingway, of Louisville; William Hemmingway and Mrs. Robertson, of Denver; Mrs. Goodbrand, of Chicago, and Thomas Hemmingway of Hanover...
